How Often Should You Flush an Outdoor Master Filter?

Most generic advice gives you a fixed flushing schedule — "every 2 weeks" — regardless of your actual water source or filter media, which isn't quite honest. The real answer depends on two things: how much sediment your supply carries, and how well your media handles it.

Properties on well or hill-fed supply generally need more frequent flushing than mains-fed properties, simply because there's more sediment coming in. After heavy rain, sediment loads spike temporarily on hill and gravity-fed supply, which is when you'll notice pressure drop faster than usual.

Media quality is the other half of the equation, and it's the part most flushing-schedule advice ignores. Fine-grain media traps more sediment per flush and clears more completely, so it holds pressure longer between flushes than coarse sand-and-gravel media — which is part of why our customers report going noticeably longer between service visits than they did with a cheaper unit.
